Family Therapy

Change your family’s patterns… together.

Family interactions can play a powerful role in either maintaining or intensifying everyone’s emotional dysregulation. The way that you respond to each other can genuinely change how your family functions.

In family therapy we bring parents and adolescents/young adults together to talk and listen to each other in a new and different way.

Not everyone in the family needs to be in the “room” at the same time during family therapy.

Often the work is between just two people at a time, and we take it one step at a time when people are ready.

Family therapy can include a variety of family members such as siblings, grandparents, stepparents and/or new romantic partners.

  • Reconnecting after a period of estrangement

  • Supporting the wellbeing of a loved one struggling with a mental health issue

  • Repairing old wounds that continue to affect family relationships today

  • Conflict or tension between siblings

  • Navigating the challenges of a young adult child living at home

  • Conflict stemming from in-laws or a new partner joining the family (blended family tensions)

  • Improving family communication around major milestone events such as weddings, cottage summers, holiday celebrations.

  • Helping families navigate interpersonal issues that can come up in the context of working together in a family business.

FAQ’s

What's the difference between individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy?

Individual therapy focuses on one person's experience, thoughts, and goals. Couples therapy involves both partners working together on the relationship. Family therapy brings multiple family members into the room to address dynamics that affect everyone, not just one person's individual struggle.

What age range of children/families do you work with?

I work with adolescents and adults — I don't provide therapy for young children. This means my family therapy is best suited for families with teens or adult children, including navigating transitions like a teen's mental health struggles, adult children living at home, or shifting family dynamics as kids grow into adulthood.  Adult child can also mean someone in their 30’s or 40’s.

What if only some family members want to attend?

That is fairly common, and it's okay to start there. Family therapy doesn't require full attendance to be effective — sometimes progress with one or two members creates positive shifts that can be felt through the whole family. We can also talk about ways to invite reluctant family members when the time feels right.

Do you work with blended or non-traditional families?

Yes. Families come in many forms — blended families, chosen family, multi-generational households, and non-traditional structures of all kinds. My approach is rooted in understanding your family's unique dynamics, not fitting you into a one-size-fits-all model.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families?

Yes, absolutely. I work with many LGBTQ+ clients and am committed to providing an affirming space for all.
